About Jennifer

Jennifer A. Cassidy is a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Oxford (St Peter’s College), author, diplomatic consultant & international development expert. Her PhD from the University of Oxford focused on the changing nature of diplomacy in the information age, examining the digitisation of diplomatic communication during times of political crisis.

She has served as a political attaché to Ireland’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (New York), the European External Action Service to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade during its 2013 Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Jennifer researches and lectures on the very game she once played. Her primary research centres on the themes of Digital Diplomacy; questioning how diplomatic agents use social media platforms during times of political crises, and to what extent their use during a conflict, can be deemed effective within diplomatic crises communication strategies. Alongside this work, she is currently producing a forthcoming book on Gender and Diplomacy.
