It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the difficult decision to cease operations for One Garden and shut down the business. This will be happening over the coming weeks. I am sorry to deliver this disappointing news and I hope this email will explain why we have taken this decision and the next steps.
This is a heartbreaking decision for our team. We have put so much love and energy into creating a community for the curious. However, the world has changed since the pandemic and the cost of living crisis has meant we were not able to get the traction we needed in terms of number of paying members to make this venture commercially viable. The quality of production and the fact we paid our Fellows to prepare and deliver exceptional Talks meant this could not remain a free offering forever. We are financially stable but we do not see a path to making this a sustainable business and feel it is the responsible decision to close the business down.
All startups are inherently risky and we knew going in that a lot of things needed to go right to make this work. I’m proud we tried and I hope we were able to put goodness out into the world and touch the lives of many people through our work.

All accounts will continue to be active - but free - until the end of February. All refunds will be processed in the next few weeks. Please bear with us as we work through this process.
The One Garden website will remain active until February 28th 2023. If there are Talks you have been meaning to catch up on, you will still be able to enjoy learning from the world’s greatest minds until then. We are looking to find a home for One Garden so that the amazing Talks can continue to live on under the wing of another organisation.
Firstly, I would like to thank each one of you for your excitement and love for what we have created, for your incredible feedback, and for sharing One Garden with the world. We built One Garden for you - our incurably curious members - as a place you could come to indulge your love of learning. I am sorry we cannot continue to deliver on this promise in its current form. Learning is a journey without a destination and I hope this experience will inspire you to continue that journey of discovery into the beautiful unknown.
Secondly, I would like to thank my amazing team for their commitment, excellence and belief. It is thanks to their efforts and passion that we have been able to produce wonderful live Talks that thousands of you have attended every week and stunning on-demand classes. My cofounder Simon and I have been honoured to work with a world-class team of producers, marketeers, engineers and product designers and we know they will go on to do great things in the future. Supporting them through this transition is our priority.
Thirdly, thank you to our investors who believed in our vision and who made it possible for us to take a risk and start this business. It is with their support and blessing that we have taken the decision to cease operations.
Finally, I would like to thank our brilliant Fellows. We have been fortunate to work and learn from hundreds of outstanding academics and thinkers from the world’s top universities. It has been a privilege to be able to bring them out of the institutions and into your home and we have learned so much from each of them. Their research and work continues to inspire and engage us, bringing cutting edge insights and discoveries that will shape our understanding of the world.
Thank you again for your support over the past year. It has meant so much that you joined us on this journey. I hope we were able to bring the joy back into learning for you and that now that seed has been planted, you will continue to cultivate it.
Since ancient times philosophers and psychiatrists from Aristotle to Viktor Frankl have debated about the importance of purpose. So why is purpose so powerful? What are the different levels of purpose and how does it connect to every aspect of our lives?
